Trip to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII)

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII – the beautiful miniatur of Indonesia park) is a place to visit for our family. The main reason is the TMII is near from our home (east Jakarta) aproximately just 2 km away , the other reason is that you can do so much activities in TMII. During the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), people go there early in the morning for jogging, exercise or just feel the fresh morning air inside TMII complex.  The TMII give special price (half the price of regular entrance fee) for entering the TMII complex early in the morning before regular opening hour. (before 7 am in the morning).

The following is the regular ticket price for TMII area

The entry ticket price is Rp 10,000 (ten thousand rupiah) per person age 3 years and above. Car entering the TMII pays Rp 10,000 (ten thousand rupiah), bus pays Rp 30,000 (thirty thousand rupiah), motorcycle pay Rp 6,000 (six thousand rupiah), and bicycle pays Rp 1.000 (one thousand rupiah).

Every Sunday inside TMII there is  Sunday market called pasar minggu ceria or cheerfull Sunday in english. The location of this event is near the bird park and the museum of electricity. The seller sell their good and service on the road side around the area. After finishing exercise, you can sight seeing there to look for goods like vegetables, fruit, clothes, watch, shoes etc. Or you can just browsing and eating food like roasted chicken, fish, fried chicken, satay, tradisional dishes, snack, donat, soup, etc. Our favourite dish are es durian cendol, satay and zoupa soup.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) created based on the idea to introduce the diversity of indonesian culture to Indonesian and foreign visitors in the single integrated complex. As you know, Indonesia is a great nation consisted from thousand islands connected by seas so it is important to have a place to get to know many different culture all together in one place.

The TMII complex is huge, its area about 150 hectars. In this complex you can find anything about Indonesia. At the TMII you can find a lake with artificial islands wich forming miniatur of Indonesia archipelago when you look at it from above. In TMII you can also go to pavilion of provinces. The pavilion exhibit amazing architecture and landscape of the province. Inside of each province pavilion you can also find the display of its traditional costume, painting, scapture, etc.

Each province has his own pavilion in TMII so it is easy for visitor to get to know the diverse culture across Indonesia. Furthermore, if you are lucky you can see the people performing tradisional dance or exhibit art event there. You can also take your children or yourself to learn the traditional dance and art on each province pavilion. Example in Aceh pavilion you can learn famous saman dance and in DKI Jakarta pavilion you can learn tari topeng betawi.

The next must see at TMII is museum. The list of museums here in TMII are Indonesia museum (showcast traditional dress, art, painting of all province in Indonesia), stamp museum, oil and gas museum, museum of electricity, museum transportation, batik museum, museum keprajuritan (military museum) etc.

At the TMII there are also entertainment places for grown up and kid to play such as snow bay (waterpark adventure), keong mas imax theatre (3D theatre), teater tanah airku (for live performing stage), istana anak – anak (children palace and playground), skyworld (aerospace education center) and the latest is taman legenda (legend park - showing animated 3D dinosaurs figure around the park).

Furthermore, there are many other interesting places to see such as orchid park, bird park, reptile park, sport museum, Alqur’an museum, tionghoa cultural park, taman akuarium air tawar (fresh water aquarium park), amazing worship places of religion and belief in Indonesia. So much to see right, well if you like to explore the TMII entirely you might need to spend more than one day. but do not worry they have decent place for visitor who like to stay longer in TMII. There are affordable hostelry inside or hotel santika right infront of TMII entrance gate.

while the complex is so big, you can explore it by car or just park your car and use transportation provided here like train, shuttle bus, bicycle or cable car where you can use to see around the TMII from above.

One other thing, the TMII is popular venue for large event and gathering. Because the complex can accomodate alot of people and alot parking lots. And they have many huge buildings to be a place for multiple meetings and events at the same time.

So that is my story about TMII, if you are happen to be in jakarta or planning to be, I recommend this place because you can practically get everything (education, entertainment, sport) in one place at reasonable price.
